The Client

  • CBD Oiled is an e-Commerce store that sells Health Supplements derived from Hemp Products such as CBD Oil, CBD Buds and Capsules.

  • They approached us in 2018 to help gain visibility in a now very competitive space which is fast gaining traction. They were in the middle of rebranding and wanted to ensure that the rebrand went well.

  • The primary goal was to get them to the top of the Search Engine Results Page (SERPs) for high-converting keywords like “CBD Buds” and “CBD Oil”. These are some examples of competitive keywords with high buyer intent. Additionally, they also wanted to be well known as an authority in the Hemp Industry and so they wanted to rank for informational keywords such as “Hemp Paper” and “Hemp Plastic”.

THE CHALLENGE

  • CBD Oiled is in a very competitive space. The growth trend for CBD searches is high and the products have a very high margin and so this has propped many companies to start in the CBD space all determined to dominate the SERPs.
  • Unfortunately, the CBD Oiled website had minimal traffic while their competitors were already well established. Part of the strategy for CBD Oiled was to sign up multiple affiliates and social influencers to promote their products. Their website was also not pretty and did not promote a great User Experience. Even though the content was great and authoritative, penned by actual Hemp experts, there was a lot to be done.
  • For starters, the website needed to look more professional for affiliates and influencers to consider them more seriously. On-page Optimisation, Silo Structure, Internal Links, and other technical aspects of the websites were also fixed and improved. To maximise the value of the links that we built, the website had to look more presentable so that it could be seen as a leading authority website on quality, reliable hemp information.

THE SOLUTION

Here are the steps that we took to improve the CBD Oiled’s website

Web Design

The website needed to undergo through a serious Rebranding. We scrapped the old design and built a completely new website. The content, as they were quality, was kept. CBD Oiled transitioned from an information blog site about Hemp/CBD to an e-Commerce website with a database of informational content.

Technical SEO

The next thing we did is to correct all the technical errors of the website --- the Error 404s, wrong URL structure, Meta tags, crawl errors, etc. We use competent tools like Screamingfrog and Sitebulb to get a good technical overview of the website before diving deep.

Content Optimisation

CBD Oiled had a lot of great content. Unfortunately, because of the website’s structure, it wasn’t ranking properly. We reverse engineered the SERPs for the content that was ranking for these keywords to see what the baseline was. From there, we optimised the content. Our SEO experts have already studied Google’s algorithm so we know how to rank up the content. Recommendations on the page structure, keyword density, content length, headings placements etc would also be given to ensure that your website’s content is perfect.

Outreach

When the website was more professional looking, we had our link building specialists reach out to Webmasters and Influencers who featured CBD Oiled’s products and content. This became both a Link Building Process and a Brand Awareness Campaign. Contacting webmasters to reference our content was easy, they could see we were experts which made the pitch easier. Meanwhile, our products was great with a good incentive for the influencers to share them, securing placements in their social feed securing placements in their social feeds.
